Brief Project Description:
The project involves the removal of existing Auxiliary Seawater (ASW) pumps, piping, and controls at Dry Dock 3, and construction of a new ASW Pump Building. The new facility will include a topside pre-engineered metal building to house three vertical turbine pumps with associated systems (heating, compressed air, electrical, lighting, fire alarm, and sprinkler). Work also includes construction of a below-deck wet well structure with coating system, a cold-water intake structure (CWIS), and related infrastructure such as electrical utility upgrades, fire hydrant, and sprinkler service lines.
The project will be executed in multiple phases: pre-construction and mobilization, construction of the new ASW system with capped utilities, cutover and demolition of the existing ASW system (coordinated with Government’s boat schedule), and final close-out. Special requirements include protection of adjacent equipment, maintaining operational utilities at Dry Dock 3 and Berth 14, compliance with historic preservation standards, and coordination with Government personnel throughout construction.
